# [The Moon Asks Us to Let Go: November 2026 New Moon and Full Moon Rituals](https://karinasmithreyes.co.uk/blog/november-2026-new-moon-full-moon-rituals)

 Written by [Karina Smith-Reyes](https://karinasmithreyes.co.uk/blog/author/karina-smith-reyes) | Nov 2, 2026, 10:30:02 AM

There is a moment every November when I notice the trees have finished letting go. One week the hedgerows are copper and gold; the next, the branches are bare against a pale sky, and somehow it looks right. Nothing is clinging on.

I find myself asking the same question each year: *what am I still holding that the season is asking me to put down?*

The moon gives us two beautiful invitations to explore that question this month.

In November 2026 the new moon falls on **Monday 9 November at 07:02 GMT** in Scorpio, and the full Beaver Moon peaks on **Tuesday 24 November at 14:53 GMT** in Gemini. It is a supermoon. The new moon is a quiet time for setting intentions; the full moon is a time for release, gratitude and letting go before winter.

**Why does November feel like a letting-go month?**

November sits between the last warmth of autumn and the deep stillness of winter. The light drops quickly, the evenings draw in, and nature turns inward. Animals finish their stores. Seeds rest under the soil.

We are part of that rhythm, even when our diaries pretend otherwise. Many women tell me they feel more tired, more tender or more reflective at this time of year. I don’t see that as something to fix. I see it as the body listening to the season.

**When is the new moon in November 2026, and what does it mean?**

The new moon arrives on **Monday 9 November 2026 at 07:02 UK time**. It is the dark phase of the cycle, when the moon is not visible at all. A seed in the dark.

This one is in **Scorpio**, the sign of depth, transformation and what lies beneath the surface. Scorpio doesn’t do small talk. It asks honest questions: What is ready to end? What are you pretending not to know?

In Kabbalistic astrology, Scorpio is linked with the Hebrew month of Cheshvan, a quiet month with no festivals. I love that. A whole month with nothing to perform, only space to go inward.

**A Scorpio new moon ritual: planting in the dark (20 minutes)**

1. **Make space.** Light a candle, dim the lights and leave your phone in another room.
2. **Arrive.** Take ten slow breaths and feel the weight of your body being held.
3. **Ask yourself:** “What am I ready to stop carrying before winter?” Write without editing for five minutes.
4. **Choose one small intention.** Keep it gentle and specific. Not “be better”, but “go to bed by 10pm on weeknights” or “say no once this week”.
5. **Seal it.** Fold the paper and place it somewhere you’ll see it. Blow out the candle with a quiet thank you.

**When is the full moon in November 2026, and what does it mean?**

The full moon, known as the **Beaver Moon**, peaks on **Tuesday 24 November 2026 at 14:53 UK time**. Because the moon looks full for about a day either side, Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 November are both lovely evenings to step outside and look up.

Its name comes from the time of year when animals finish preparing their homes for winter. It is also called the Frost Moon or Mourning Moon. This year it is a **supermoon**, close to Earth and a little brighter than usual, as if it wants to be noticed.

The full moon sits in **Gemini**, the sign of the mind, words and communication. It arrives just as the festive season begins to buzz, when our heads fill with lists, plans and conversations replaying on a loop. This full moon offers a chance to clear the mental clutter before December.

**A Beaver Moon release ritual: clearing the noise (30 minutes)**

1. **Clear one small space.** A drawer, a bedside table, the corner of a desk. An outer clearing helps an inner one.
2. **Empty your head onto paper.** Every task, worry and “should”, until there’s nothing left.
3. **Notice what’s yours.** Circle the three things that truly matter this month. Cross out what belongs to someone else’s expectations.
4. **Let it go.** Safely burn or tear up the crossed-out list, and say out loud what you are releasing.
5. **Nourish yourself.** A warming cinnamon and ginger tea, a blanket, an early night.

**Pause and reflect**

Before the new moon, sit with these questions for a few minutes:

- What did this year ask of me?
- What am I proud of that nobody saw?
- What would it feel like to enter winter a little lighter?

You don’t need answers straight away. Sometimes the question is the ritual.

**How can I live more in tune with the moon through winter?**

You don’t need to follow every phase perfectly. Start with two check-ins a month, at the new and full moon, and notice how your energy, sleep and appetite change across the cycle.

Over time, you may find a softer rhythm: more rest when the moon is dark, more connection when it is full. **Come and sit in circle with us**

Some things are easier to release in company. If you’d love to mark this season with other women, join me for [The Dark Goddess Awakening](https://karinasmithreyes.co.uk/dark-goddess-awakening-full-moon-circle) on **Sunday 29 November, 5–7pm**, at The Roundhouse, Hawkwood, Stroud.

We’ll work with Hecate, Inanna and Ereshkigal, three goddesses of the underworld and the dark, through ritual, guided meditation and reflection. It’s a space to meet the parts of yourself you’ve pushed away, release old patterns and reclaim your inner authority. Groups are small, so places are limited.

**Frequently asked questions**

**What is the Beaver Moon?**

The Beaver Moon is the traditional name for November’s full moon. In 2026 it peaks on 24 November at 14:53 GMT and is a supermoon, so it looks slightly larger and brighter than an average full moon.

**Is the new moon or full moon better for setting intentions?**

The new moon is traditionally used for setting intentions, because it marks the start of the lunar cycle. The full moon is used for release, gratitude and letting go. Many people work with both each month.

**Do I need to know astrology to do a moon ritual?**

No. A moon ritual can be as simple as lighting a candle, writing down what you want to release or invite, and taking a quiet moment for yourself. Astrology adds depth, but presence matters most.
